By Laurie Mason Schroeder, Staff Writer

NORTHAMPTON - Andrew "AJ" Brooks said that the sex was consensual.

A Bucks County jury last Thursday found Andrew Brooks not guilty of raping an unconscious woman after a two-day trial. The 30-year-old Northampton man was acquitted of charges that included rape of an unconscious victim, indecent assault without consent, indecent assault of an unconscious person, and sexual assault.

The jury deliberated for more than six hours following a two-day trial and concluded that Brooks did not commit the alleged assault. Brooks's defense attorney, Louis Busico, argued that the encounter was consensual and that the accusations were unfounded.

"This was a consensual act between two adults," Busico said. "We are pleased with the jury's verdict and believe justice has been served."

The case revolved around an incident where Brooks was accused of taking advantage of an unconscious woman. The prosecution argued that the victim was unable to consent, while the defense maintained that the act was consensual.

Raymond Callahan was found not guilty on charges of manufacturing, delivering, or possessing with intent to manufacture or deliver controlled substances. The verdict was delivered on November 13, 2009.

Callahan was accused of intent to possess a controlled substance by a person not registered and use or possession of drug paraphernalia. His defense attorney, Louis Busico, argued that the evidence against Callahan was insufficient and that his client had been wrongfully accused.

The jury agreed, acquitting Callahan on all charges. Busico expressed satisfaction with the verdict, stating, "Justice was served today. Raymond Callahan can now move forward with his life without the burden of these unfounded accusations."
